Paychecks Would Feed Us, Not Free Us

Paychecks Would Feed Us, Not Free Us

When I was Young People Lived Paycheck to Paycheck.  Today It seems that they live from credit card to credit card payment.  Robert Kiyosaki.

There was a time when a paycheck felt like the answer.

Not a huge one.

Not enough to make us wealthy.

But enough to cover what needed covering.

And for a while, I told myself that was progress.

That if we just worked a little harder, earned a little more, and kept pushing, eventually things would change.

But something didn’t sit right.

Because no matter how much came in, the underlying situation wasn’t really changing.

We were still trading our time for money.

And there is only so much time two people have.

You can work harder.

You can try to earn more.

You can take on more responsibility.

But eventually you run into a ceiling.

Paychecks would feed us, but they couldn’t free us.

That thought stayed with me because it helped clarify something I’d been missing.

Earning and owning are two different things

A paycheck is tied to your time.

You work.

You get paid.

You stop working, and the income stops.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing. Jobs provide stability, experience and an important source of income for millions of people.

But if the goal is greater freedom, there has to be another piece to the puzzle.

Something you can build and own.

Something that can continue working after you’ve finished today’s work.

That’s where the idea of an asset becomes important.

And this is one of the biggest mindset shifts I’ve come across in online business.

Don’t just chase the next payment. Start building something that can become more valuable over time.

The asset most beginners overlook

When people first discover affiliate marketing, it’s easy to focus on the click.

Get someone to click your link.

Send them to an offer.

Hope they buy.

Then start looking for the next person.

But what happens when they don’t buy?

You’ve lost the visitor.

You’ve lost the opportunity to follow up.

And tomorrow, you’re back to finding more traffic.

That’s why the idea of building your list first is so important.

Instead of simply sending people away, you have the opportunity to capture the lead and build a relationship.

The list becomes an asset.

You can communicate with those people again.

You can provide useful information.

You can follow up.

And over time, you can build trust rather than constantly starting from zero.

That’s the thinking behind the approach I want to share with you.

Take a closer look at the model here.

You don’t have to build everything from scratch

This is another lesson that took me a while to appreciate.

When you first look at building an online business, it can seem like you need to become a website designer, copywriter, funnel builder, email marketer, product creator and traffic expert all at once.

No wonder so many beginners get overwhelmed.

A simpler model can make a huge difference.

The ClickBank Profit Club is built around affiliate marketing, list building, follow-up and a simpler path to generating commissions. Members don’t have to create everything from scratch or put every piece of the technology together themselves.

John Thornhill brings more than 20 years of online experience to the training and is a 9x ClickBank Platinum Vendor. He has also helped more than 3,000 people since 2008.

The point isn’t that building an online business requires no work.

It does.

The point is that you don’t necessarily need to make the journey harder by trying to invent every piece yourself.

The goal isn’t another paycheck

This is the part I wish I’d understood earlier.

There is a difference between earning money and building something that can produce value.

One pays the bills today.

The other can potentially become part of your financial foundation for tomorrow.

That doesn’t happen overnight.

It takes learning.

It takes consistency.

It takes building relationships and following up.

But the direction is different.

Instead of constantly asking:

“How can I earn more this month?”

You can start asking:

“What am I building that can become more valuable over time?”

That is a very different question.

And sometimes, a different question is where the breakthrough begins.

From working for income to building an asset

For me, the biggest realization was simple.

I didn’t just need to work harder.

I needed to think differently about what I was building.

A paycheck can cover today’s expenses.

But if you want more flexibility and freedom in the future, you need to start building assets that aren’t completely dependent on your hours.

In an online business, that can mean building an email list, creating useful content, developing relationships with your audience and having a simple system for following up.

It’s not about getting rich quickly.

It’s not about finding some magic shortcut.

It’s about moving in a different direction.

From earning only for today to building something that can work toward tomorrow.

Paychecks can feed us.

But building assets is what gives us a chance to create something more lasting.

And that distinction changed the way I looked at online business completely.

It may give you a different way to think about building an online business, especially if you’re tired of constantly starting over.
